The WCC will eventually come unless nakamura catches up in development or aronian figures out a way to beat him. The rating record is in itself a great accomplishment.
Magnus = Great

Carlsen's rating of 2861 will officially appear in the FIDE January rating list. It is not just the number – inflation takes its toll – but the gap he opened on the other players. Vladimir Kramnik is 51 points behind. In 1972, Bobby Fischer was 125 points ahead of Boris Spassky, his nearest contender. Adding inflation, Fischer's rating would hover around 2880 today. Garry Kasparov rose to his record rating of 2851 in 1999, 80 points above Vishy Anand.

This is Kavalek's opinion (possibly bolstered by the ridiculous Chessmetrics which also estimates von Bardeleven's peak at 2714), not Chessbase's, and is laughable. Fischer was only 29 when he stopped playing. He could have played Karpov, Timman, Korchnoi in his prime, Ivanchuk, Kasparov, Anand, Kramnik, and Topalov, but he refused.
All those super-GMs showed up at tournament after tournament where organizers would have paid any price in cash and conditions to host Fischer, too. But the nutbar was too freaked out or just plain chicken-poop.
You dont believe there is inflation in ratings today ? I do as do many others . You are entitled to your opinion just as I , and others, are to theirs. One simple fact though is that Karpov's peak rating never surpassed Fischer's peak rating so how can anyone hold that Karpov would have beaten him ? If Fischer had continued playing his rating certainly would have risen and he would have broken 2800 easily . As to why he quit playing I dont think anyone knows , for sure, maybe not even he knew . I do believe he was fed up with FIDE and simply didnt want to deal with them anymore .

Gramatically challenged? Congratulations, you win the "worst attempt of trying to sound smart award".
FYI it takes a long time to educate idiots. It is just you who fail to follow the connections within this thread.

Seriously Melk0r, nobody wants to hear your crap, you're boring.
I enjoy these arguments, so speak for yourself.

I think Magnus is going to have trouble winning against Kramnik in the coming years until Kramnik retires

Wrong! In 1972 Bobby Fischer was "only" 95 points ahead of Bent Larsen (#2, while Boris V. Spassky was #3).
@ Melk0r: As you don't get my points it's useless to discuss. You don't understand any argument because you might be totally wrong!
