Magnus and his jeans - dress and act like a brat, be treated like one.

>I'm pretty confident you're just a Hans Neimann fanboy<

It would be pointless for me to deny this, since no-one is here to change their minds about anything. Nonetheless, I will. I don't know much about Hans Neimann, other than the famous beads controversy (which I never quite understood...who was signaling the pulses to the beads, and how?) I also hear he has an unhealthy relationship with Kramnik, whom we all need to put on ice. Finally, he treated Levi like crap in a recent interview, and I'm a big Levy Rozman fan. Indeed, I think Levy has miles of class over Magnus, Hans, Krammy, and just about all of them.

So, no...I'm not a Hans fan. If we use similar language, well, we both speak American English, and "hissy fit" is a pretty common phrase here, especially when adults do childish things.

I *will* go on record as SUPPORTING a jeans ban. Jeans are for farmers and kids. Stop whining and get your butts to a good clothing store and buy some decent threads.

The only reason any of you should wear jeans is if you are working outside the house doing messy manual labor. Since most of you are almost certainly not, then put them away. I see khakis in your future. You can get cheap ones from Amazon Essentials.

One other clothing tip, since I know most of you don't get out much - if you are wearing shorts you better either be under 12 years old or playing tennis. That goes for everywhere, I don't care how hot it is. You'll live, your calves won't sweat that much. Here, I'll make it easy for you:

duh heck?

If the jeans don't have any tears, then there should not be a ban. That's just me.

As sensible as that might sound, it leaves too much open for interpretation. Tournament Directors have enough to do without policing tears on jeans -- what if it's just an inch tear, etc. Seriously, a no-jeans dress code is hardly aggressive. The defense of denim on this board is a little ludicrous. No shorts, no t-shirts, no bare feet in flip-flops, no overalls, no terrycloth unitards...just dress like you were going to someplace nice. Pants, shoes, a shirt with a collar.

Adulting. It's not hard.

Jeans are pants

If you are an adult (and that seems doubtful) then recognize that your little clothing tirade is meaningless, and that ties, suits etc. are eventually going the way of the dodo bird, because they are, well, stupid. If this were the 1700s you would be telling us to wear foppish lace shirts and powdered wigs.

Fashion is an unnecessary construct to sell $5 worth of fabric and labor for $100. Nothing more.

It's always ironic when I see people reduce the entire moral notion of being an adult to wearing a certain type of pants.
It reminds me of the HR lady at my work - I could be doing 10x the productive work of the engineer next to me (and often am), but she will make it her priority to chastise me if I'm leaning back in my chair... (the chair is even designed for that), apparently this is "unprofessional behavior" ... and here I thought the purpose of my profession was to actually do productive work... nevermind that if she annoys me with her arbitrary opinions too much I'll probably just change jobs and get a salary increase, her company will be left retraining an engineer...
You can have the mindset of a vain teen but just package it as an adult mindset and no one will point out the difference.
Anyway, the real problem with FIDEs actions are not the policy itself, it is the lack of flexibility / the conditions surrounding their enforcing this rule. If you don't understand that there's a right and wrong way to enforce rules I encourage you to read any primer on legal philosophy. Humans by and large do not want a society where the wearing of jeans for one day is policed and has vast implications / causes fines to be imposed and people to get on soap boxes. It just isn't enjoyable...

Everyone knows that there were no adults back in the days of the Roman Empire, because formal pants hadn't been invented yet. They wore togas. Juveniles!

Who cares?

You can dress the way you want.

The important thing is HOW you play.

And Magnus is great at chess.

Avatar of Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Magnus makes the event worthy.

So in actual fact it IS the organisers, crazy organisers, that lost, and the audience as well.

Pity that nowadays there are still such stupid organisers.

Avatar of Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

But how did he play half a week with same jeans?

Besides, those jeans are NOT visible below board.

If they have to invite him again, they will need to shell out a whole million, and I am still unsure Carlsen will accept.

You should follow the news, that will save you some embarrassment in the future.

This whole stuff is totalitarian, sorry.

Tomorrow they will say we want all players' hair cut to the skin.

Or all players' nails trimmed to the raw flesh.

That's totalitarian, we had those requirements back then under communism in Eastern Europe, if you had to go to school, you needed to have your hair cut to half an inch at most. And no nails at all.

And I promise you, it SUCKED.

Why repeat it?

Avatar of Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Magnus should SUE them.

He can get at least 5 billion compensation.

Nowadays everything is decided by judges, unelected judges.

Avatar of Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Sue them, Magnus.

Make them repent.

Totalitarian upshoots.
