Dude's fallen to #1 place in the rankings, what a failure. He's history already.
Magnus Carlsen -is he finished?

I wouldn't call this the end of Carlsen just yet, but his 10 losses ths year — the most of any champion in a year — does make one wonder.
Did you ever discover that this statement was not true?
from fabelhat´s posts:
"Euwe lost at least around 15 games as World Champion in 1937, Steinitz lost ten just in the match against Lasker, Alekhine lost nine just in the first match agInst Euwe etc."
"Anand lost eleven games as World Champion in 2013, and that in less than eleven months since he lost the title in November. Tal lost ten games as World Champion in 1961 (in less than five months)."

If you count rapid and blitz games, it's right. If you only count standard games, I think he lost seven games. He won five tournaments. In other words, he won almost as many tournaments as games he lost.

But these were weak tournaments. None of his opponents had a rating higher than 2820.

GPE, remind us. How many games did Carlsen lose in this tnmt? What was the lowest rated player he faced?

This looks a bit more like the usual Carlsen, both Anand and Adams had to suffer in the endgames even if they didn't lose this time. If Carlsen can hold with black against Aronian his remaining schedule looks as if he won't lose any game but have good chances to avoid being winless. Considering the high amount of draws +2 will probably be enough to at least share first.
(That's from 8 days ago, impressive!)
Fabelhaft, please can you message me with this weekend's UK winning lottery numbers? Thanks in Advance

Carlsen the largest pool of Super-GM's to face of any WC ever. There are currently 44 +2700's in the rankings. When Kramnik (Who's been a GM since MC was 2 and been in the top 10 nearly as long) and Kasparov where WC's there were never more than 20 and until around 2010 never more than 30.
The top tier is much much stronger than a generation ago. Play enough 2700s and eventually they will win one. That is their profession after all.

Imo Carlson does not appear to be focused solely on chess. He has too many outside interests. He seems to be headed for a set back. Will he recover?
