Magnus losing on Chess tuesday, was it cheating?

I don't usually condemn anyone for cheating online. It's online chess. There's no huge financial compensation for it online. It's also difficult to prove regardless, and that's the bar that's been set for everyone and the consequences that are accepted... I remember in the ps2 days playing competitive online gaming with obvious cheaters, but it was the price worth playing the game and competing.

Anyway, I reviewed the game with the chess.com engine and it says are "Deep" engine analysis the titled player who beat Magnus made 82.4% of the best move, and 53 excellent moves, 4 good moves, and 1 inaccuracy. That is possible, but also highly unlikely in a blitz game. I don't think you can penalize anyone for this performance, because then you're eliminating the possibility of people simply playing well out of fear of being accused of cheating. These are the consequences of online chess.

With that said, I'm highly skeptical.

Who did Magnus lose to?

Eould have thought those stats quite reasonable for a top GM  What was the time limit?

GM_Giri

he mouse slipped, and probally wasn't concentrating,He made an unsound sacrifice, rook for knight and pawn which was possibly an error on his behalf.

Strangemover

Looks like white was content with a draw by 3 fold repetition but Carlsen varied on move 39. And he randomly hung the knight on the last move I guess in time pressure.

GM_Giri

great job!!!

GM_Giri

what,who is the fat dude?

I totally agree....I am extremely skeptical as well. But as you say, it's not good to hurl accusations either without proof.

Magnus says he challenges his opponents to play 70 good moves; well GM Levin played 58 without a single mistake and it was good enough.

I'm not questioning the legitimacy. I'm sure he was trying his best against Magnus.

I doubt a GM would put his title on the line to cheat in an online blitz game. Some of you have no respect towards titled players. You should be ashamed of the accusation and delete this thread.

Yes GM's play a lot more honourably these days. They don't take that Bobby Fischer mentally of "Anything it takes to win", If we were talking about Fischer playing blitz and you accused him of cheating I would give this thread more mind. But the reality is that modern GMs now have more honour and respect for the game.

I dont think anyone was accusing him, just remarking that his play was very engine like. with a rating of 2700 it is perhaps not surprising that the best moves are usually found

Fischer was better than computer at that time to cheat by its help.

Wow unbelievable 57th move by Carlsen

Its not about how good the moves are, but how computerlike. Maybe white did lots of home prep on his comp in the line played

When I think of "computerlike," I imagine a mindboggling tactical fight played with perfect accuracy.
But this was a simple positional game where Magnus was once again trying too hard.

It's crazy how little respect people have for how hard it is to become a GM. And therefore, don't show them the respect they deserve. "Oh look, its a GM playing really well, must be cheating". Ridiculous. Have some more respect for the title, look at this thread and learn about the difficulties. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/how-easy-is-it-to-become-a-gm

Maybe then you'll show some respect.

Hilarious that this is coming from a dude who have said that going from 2600 to 2900 is as easy as going from 700 to 1000.

I never said it was easy, I said they're both difficult.
