How can you blame Anand for the draws ? Both players were responsible for it.
Major problem with Anand - Carlsen match
In a 12-game format you either draw, lose or win because the other guy tried to win and failed. This is not internet chess, OTB chess or some tournament where you can come back after a loss. One loss could basically mean the loss of the entire match. In fact Carlsen tweeted his dislike for all the draws last year:
"Seriously though, I don’t blame the players for agreeing to all those early draws, it’s just appaling that the rules allow them to"
And yet here he is in Gelfand's position realising that he has no choice. Nakamura tweeted his dislike for this tournament's start and once he gets in the challenger's seat he will realise the same.
There was more to both games than meets the eye. Saying they were "boring" is probably an opinion made without understanding what the two players were thinking about? There were some interesting possible lines in both games.
@timepass1234
Like Anand you are coward.
Please translate in English the abuse hurled at me.
And please note that I will not abuse whole of the India just because I dont agree with your preferences. Imran Khan is not in power and I did not vote for him in May 2013 Elections
There is a theory that chess itself is a draw. Possibly this match will add a little bit of evidence towards that theory?
The World is having first hand experience of Aging Anand pre plan cowardice of playing for draws!
no Anand is not and he can not be defeated!
The "Anand Era" will come to an end! Sooner and not later.
I am no fan of Anand nor Carlsen, and still not one. But I agree, with these boring games, I would like to see "Anand Era" come to en end. End of boring games and players.
But then again Carlsen is also a type of boring person and player. So, someone will bring to an end of Carlsen in afew years.
The sooner "Anand Era" ends, the better it is for chess community.
Chess is not a game played in passion but rather one of cool calculated thinking. If you think it is played in passion, you are in the wrong sport.
And neither is it part of the entertainment industry. If you want to be entertained with wild crazy matches, you are better off watching WWF wrestling. A good player would strive to win the match, which does not necessarily mean winning each and every game in the match. A good player wouldn't care about entertaining the spectators.
Blaming Anand for the draw is not correct. It is unlikely that the opposing player,Carlsen didn't see the draw coming and could have averted the draw for eg. by playing c6. The fact that he was unwilling to do so indicates that he was bent on playing some particular line which he had extensively prepared for, and you can't blame Anand for not wanting to walk into that trap.
And, sorry to upset your dreams, but the Anand era has only just begun!
Bring your checking account and your ATM card to my city
and you will quickly change your mind. I must live in one of the top 100 competitve cities in the world. Passion is in almost everything and not limited to my city or state. It is in my part of the country. Our passion is so great even in when others mail it in by nature we think there must be a way to still win and not draw.
I know a celebrity that said says it best.
" Failure is not an option " Charlie Sheen
They wroter his career off and now he is even bigger than ever.
On your matter of entertaing the spectators. Wrong again. You must be playing with the parrot. Take out a board in the park in almost any city and a crowd will appear out of nowhere slowly. Give it time and somebody is talking smack. Where there is smack talk there is an ego. With the ego brings "Showtime at the Apollo". Players i know started off because we either crushed our opponents early on or were crushed and wanted some pay back.
Remember you did not say great player! A flaw in your process. I know many good players here on chess.com that will tell a couple players how they destroyed a player or destroyed the other team in a Team Match or Vote Chess. So your theory and that is what is has flaws in it my friend.
On Anand i am blaming him for the draw. History shows he did it recently. Cowards are like that as they live a thousand deaths. I was a draw master when i first learned chess. That was when i was in high school and made many mistakes in games and hated losing. When i became better i hate draws more than i hate losing. It just says a blown chance to win the game.
We need Carlsen to not only win but crush Aging Anand as others will follow this method against a stronger player. The Old Man time has come and he is showing it. Time for the Golden Wiz Kid Carlsen Era!

Imran Khan, Pakistan ki kaptan, haath mein beedi, muh mein paan, chal be kutte Pakistan.
Stupid Pakistani!
I am not from Pakistan....... but i see you have hatred for them.
This is the example why Anand must go down hard as he represents what is wrong with this generation of players. Carlsen is young and some wise GM can wisper in his ear how to act like a true champion. Champions go out and win and straigth forward in big games. They like to leave now doubt who was the better player.
I take Carlsen to a room and show him how in the past how they retired players like Anand and took the Championship from him and never looked back. How many times have we seen an up and coming player get inside the current champion players mind and mentally take him out his game plan which was week to start with. Carlsen needs to do this. Take some facts about Anand and point it to the public why Anand can not win and should not win.
That alone will make Anand rethink his draw plan. He will have to play for the win in order to save face. Force him spend more time responding to comments that he is preparing for the games. Be like fighters and make bold predictions like you will toy with him for while. Then when you give a certain signal Anand goes down. Sure if you know some history of great fighters this has workded and you know which fighter(s) i am talking about here. It has been done in (team)champsion games in pro sports also!
For those who want to penalize the players for draws: To win a game one of the players has to make a mistake. What are you going to do if niether player makes a mistake? Penalize both players because neither player makes a mistake?
I think Carlsen is mature and comfortable in his masculinity so we probably won't see that bishop.
When you said bishop I thought you meant something completely different.
The sooner the Anand Era ends the sooner we do not have to hear how good Anand is from his fans. Usher in the Champion Carlsen Era and with it a better future for the chess commmunity. A younger player may hear we do not want championship games with draws. He then will bring the excitement to game that we have been waiting for so long.
The Old are usually spite ful and full of hatred the young are energetic and fun. You can not teach an Old Dog new tricks. The young are eager to learn and way more likely to embrace change.
Next year Carlsen and anybody but Anand will be a breath of fresh air. We will not be talking about the format of 12 games and worry about draw games as much. The man with the Orange Juice and ugly face may be the headlines. The first model slash champion would be nice to read about it. The kids will have a better role model in chess.
I don´t think this match is boring.
It´s been constantly compared to football. To keep the analogy, they´ve played 15 minutes so far with absolutely no chances on both sides. Italy (Anand) is defending rock solidly and waiting for counter chances, whereas England (Carlsen) is not getting anywhere and just praying that it´s not going to lead to a decision by penalties!
For those who want to penalize the players for draws: To win a game one of the players has to make a mistake. What are you going to do if niether player makes a mistake? Penalize both players because neither player makes a mistake?
No planning a draw game before it even starts.
History shows this of Anand.
If i was Carlsen i point this out to the Chess Community.
Then Anand ego would have to force him to play for the win.
The games would go deep into the End Game with a result in somebody lost.
Name a Hall of Famer in any sport and they want to show you them playing at the highest level and crushing their opponent without any doubt. Not this draw stuff. Cowardly play from Anand. The bad part is that his fans supported him the last time he did this draw tactic.
When 2 players enter ..... for the championship it is a knock down drag out fight and only one leaves with what they came for. End of story. With Anand her were are playing in the bakery making butter cup cookies with all these pre planned draws.
Frank Marshall after losing eight games to Capablanca went to great lengths to allow Capablanca to participate in the San Sebastian tournament in 1911. That's sportsmanship. That trash talk garbage supposed athletes do nowadays is a complete joke.

Time has showed it is not a joke. It has evolved over the years most of the time it works and it nasty when it backfires.
Take the current game. Dallas Cowboys vs New Orleans Saints.
Ryan was the former defensive coach of dallas. They fired him and said his system was wack. He goes to the Saints. Dallas played today and said they beat the Saints
Saints easy as their former garbage Def Coach is on the Saints. Well lets just say the Saints Defense put a hurting on Dallas. Last time i looked at the game it was 35 - 10 and getting worse. Dallas is a scoring team.... well it did not show. The motivated the ..... out of their former Def Coach as i am sure he returned the trash talk. As it is his nature.
Ali, Mayweather and Frazier all talked much ....... backed it up. Sometimes it is used to pump themselves up.

So because it allegedly works it's somehow sportsmanlike? Yeah sure they were legendary boxers but the trashtalk is always an afterthought. And I thought that whole "Imma show you how great I am" speech was just for the people that doubted Ali anyway.
