Here’s mine, I call it the chessdbnerd attack!

Your opening seems really interesting by the way! Can i ask the logic behind Be3?

Rook mind set thanks 😊. It's actually b6 and it's to develop the bishop.

Also, why did you play c4?

RookMindset- That opening is named Ruy Lopez opening: Morphy Defense, Modern Steinitz variation, 5. c4. It’s not new. Every move is named

If you want to create a new opening, try variations on less common lines the Ruy Lopez

To lock down the b5 and d5 squares and stop b7-b5.

The Modern Steinitz is 4…d6. 5.c4 is not a named variation, which is why it says 5.c4 in your database instead of a name. I named the variation myself. I know it has been played and analyzed before.

Game review says it’s a book move

I don’t like c4, not an awful move but it creates a long term issue for white and makes the game easier for black to play since all they have to do is try to attack white’s weaknesses. The hole on d4 is what the game will be a battle of- which is not something white wants to spend the game defending, it’s more likely for white to get a draw or a loss in this position then a win simply because they have to defend most of the game. Not to say that c4 doesn’t have its merits- and it’s not exactly easy for black to target d4, but I personally don’t think it’s worth it to push c4 especially in longer time controls where black can spend more time figuring out how to attack d4.

but that’s just my brief analysis

#7, I don’t think you want to stop b7-b5, it’s a nice lime for white to play in because even though black gets queenside space they also have a bit of a structure weakness, and if d6 ever tries to march to d5 then white can attack the weakness on c5. It would be safer (in my [intermediate] opinion) to stick with/study the lines where you allow b5 because it is well studied and the game remains a lot more balanced with neither player having an exact weakness but black has more potential for it.

I think in real games the d4 square is a much smaller problem than the starting position lets on, especially after white gets in d2-d4.

Give me a line where white gets that
RookMindset

Sure! Following the most common moves at amateur level: 5…Bd7 6.0-0 g6 7.d4

d2-d4 seems like a real pipe dream for white, black will trade light-squared bishop for the f3 knight- will be in time to castle to remove the bishop pin and then where is d4? if you ever trade in c6 then c5 locks d4 down!

5…Bd7!? I mean- I feel like even an amateur would play 5…Bg4
Abtectous
Bg4 is already very common for black in other variations of the ruy Lopez
RookMindset

I’m using the lichess (dont ban me mods!!) database set to 2200+ rapid/classical and Bd7 is most common. Bg4 is the mainline i think and while it stops d4 for a while it comes with its own disadvantages, ie losing bishop pair
