What problem? I like him.

He is a sincere man.  He is just expressing his feeling.

We, russians , are opposite to that... are un-sincere as a rule.

We used to hide our inner feelings.

I don't think the post is about whether he motivated people to join chess community or not. The point is that he has a "douchy" personality. The point about bringing more people to chess community doesn’t negate that resolution.

and my point is so does your favorite chess player most likely.   He is no different hence the double standard for some reason.

My favourite chess player is Paul Morphy. He was a humble man. Besides, the point about Hikaru having a douchy personality stands true.

I don't know if you watch youtube.  but my two favorite chess streams are Coffee Chess from California and CFN Channel from Moscow,  and they are like night and day compared to each other lol.  Hikaru has made appearances at coffee chess and I know at one point CFN was trying to raise money to play with him but it never happened.   I would of loved to see that lol.

But Mini Dangelo might be horrifed to see the grown men trash talking little 8 year old girls on coffee chess LOL.

If someone trash talks Over the board to me, I hope they have their health insurance covered

He was actually horribly rude and obnoxious.  SO much so his girlfriend refused to marry him and the newspapers called him a crazy scumbag constantly.  He hated his fans and wasn't afraid to show it.   He died miserable and poor and alone in his mothers house because he didn't even have a personality for his law practice.

Yeah, right. And Morphy used to stream at Twitch and curse at people, using cheap tricks and getting mad when losing. You were there to witness. I believe you.

You do understand that Paul Morphy is not your imaginary friend?.... as in you don't get to decide facts about his life based on what suits your story. I admire your active imagination, but you really seem to think you can just talk out of your a$$ and make up any old crap without us disputing your lies?

Yeah, man. He met Morphy through astral projection and voo doo, then learned facts about his life.

I'm telling you the truth bud.  Do some research on him. Everything I've said was true,  especially about what a rude, arrogant obnoxious prick he was who hated his fans.   And the press hated him for it.  They literally called him insane and worse.   Yes his girlfriend left him,  Yes he died poor and alone in his mothers house because his law practice was a failure.   These are all truths i guess you were never told.

You couldn't name me a modern player,  cause you know they are all rude and arrogant.  Fischer was once quoted as saying chess attracts ego  maniacs.   Kasparov was literally quoted as saying you must be one to become world champion.

I know you are telling me truth. You are the messiah who produces facts. There’s no need for any more research when the messiah conveyed the "facts" from his visions.

Then... as it seems... Chess playing affects much human mind...  it makes people nervious and psychologically unstable. )

One of the things I do find fascinating is that chess players seem to be in a constant paradoxical state of mind.

Talking about chess players as if you aren't one.

I don't see what the issue is with these videos. Maybe it's tongue-in-cheek and I don't get the joke. That someone plays tricks, flags or gets upset about being flagged in online bullet? Never heard of. Or that he trash-talks in a game with his buddy Eric Rosen? Eric laughed about it, and Hikaru took this loss lightly.

There are other, uglier examples, that show him being a sore loser. That's a character flaw, but one that is all too common (I also get pretty emotional when I lose, it passes quickly). We all have our personality issues.

What I do like about him is the reverence for the game, and the understanding of it, that he shows when analyzing games (like Kasparov's Immortal, but also more recent ones by Alireza and Dubov). His analysis is typically much more insightful than that of other YouTubers. For example, rather than talking of "gangsta move" (gothamchess) he would simply explain the reasoning behind certain choices, without resorting to sensationalism.

hmm...no one is completely evil or angel. Chess aside...he donated 5000 dollars to ALS care fund too.

Kowarenai

coolout if you think every player is arrogant how about ding liren?

NikkiLikeChikki
Not every chess player is an arrogant bumbaclot, and some of them have actual real-life friends. Hikaru has no friends. Everyone in the chess world dislikes him. That says a lot.
Kowarenai

well everyone in the elite but tbh does he have any real friends? levy?

Kowarenai

what about daniel naradiskty, eric rosen, or someone like danny rensch? these guys are americans and with some scenes over the years you could count them as a little toxic tho i wouldnt say are arrogant but nice people who have done well in promoting the chess world

I'm not sure who Danny Rensch is.   Isn't he the chess.com guy?  I don't think he'd have a job if he was arrogant and unfriendly.    Daniel and Eric I wouldn't say are rude,  but they are extremely arrogant and stuckup.   I still like them though lol.

@dannyrensch he is a nice guy and pretty funny too dont get why some hate him :/

how are eric and daniel arrogant tho? eric seems way humble along with danny who can be a little toxic at times like in the past but he has gotten better, i dont rlly see him as arrogant
