Let me state for the record this was a completed game in an on-going (ruy-lopez) tournament. It occurred to me there is something with the system concerning on-line chess on this site. If i announce to my opponent a forced mate in 8 moves or less at (7 days per move) why should i have to wait until christmas to claim the victory should my opponent decide not to resign ! ( he resigned) . Where is the verify tab to justify my claim and end that contest or not justify my claim costing me an automatic forfiet either way at least i will be home for Christmas !!  Laughing

Just set it to conditional moves.

The website is obviously reluctant to just give people victories if they have a forced checkmate.  Firstly its unfair on an opponent who loses if they want someone to play for checkmate.  Secondly you might not know how to get checkmate anyway (although not saying this is the case in your particular game you are on about.)

You make good points !! I do not think that you could use the "conditional" moves tab during the course of a game only at the beginning ! your second point of fairness does not apply the game is over !! Give me a verify tab to validate my claim and end the contest or forfeit  me because the moves i entered into their validation system failed  to  justify my claim !! The point is no matter what defence your opponent chooses he will be mated in X amount of moves that makes it totally pointless to play it out for months !!

Conditional moves are available all through the game, especially useful for forced mate situations. Once you have set your conditionals, just start a new game and forget about the heel-dragger.... no skin off your nose.

The question of giving people victories if they can force a checkmate, and if they know how to do the checkmate has come up before on the forums plenty of times.  I accept if the person who is winning knows how to do it, the game is over.

Nevertheless I don't think any chess website would ever have that kind of feature on it, where someone can just claim a victory.

Of course, the main thing point is that you shouldn't play 7 days/move if you're afraid that finishing a game is going to take months.
