bruh my maths is ..........
Maximum number of available legal moves ?

Lol . I am good at math . But this isn't just about math. Its kinda difficult to even attempt to find an answer to this.

yeah kinda same
kinda same here too

If the position is 1.. e4 e5 then there are 27 legal moves for white might be wrong but
Yeah I know that
At the start of a chess game , a player can legally only move either one of his 8 pawns or one of his 2 knight. The pawns can move either one square forward or two squares forward . Similarly the knights can either come forward to the a or c and g or h files respectively.
Thus legal pawn moves = 8*2=16
Legal Knight Moves = 4
Hence total legal moves at the beginning = 20
But as we progress through the game this number is definitely going to change and vary.
As more pieces which weren't able to move in the opening can now move , the number of legal moves is going to increase. Nature of the position too is going to play a factor . A closed position is going to restrict the number whereas an open position will increase it.
Does anyone know what can be the maximum number of legal moves available to a side at any point of time ?
