You can cancel the auto-renewal in your settings.

Memberships by default are renewing. If your your gold membership was a subscription, upgrading to Diamond is also a subscription. If you had a gold gift and Diamond gift, then you won't get renewed, though if you have a card on file, you might want to double check with support. You can also cancel renewal if that option is available as mentioned by @justbefair

The money will be taken automatically from your bank account to renew. You get one year extra if you buy a one-year diamond and one month extra if you buy one month diamond maybe. That works with platinum too. I am not sure with the gold membership because I didn't get that one.
