But to get to the endgame you have to get to the middle game. And you still have to calculate moves, and so don't you still have to visualize? And to visualize don't you have to memorize (kind of) the position first? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just joined the site, and this is my first post/question. I've started to learn how to visualize to calculate in chess. However, I have run into a problem. Most of the time, I cannot remember the position well enough to visualize it properly without looking at the board. Is there a way to memorize these positions for this? Also, most articles say you should know the color of the squares and diagonals. Does this help visualization? Thank you!
