Message To Cheaters

I have seen so many cheaters. Not those who played against me but from reading other's games, especially those who need to boost their ego by posting their wonderfull games. I can understand human's ego. Human need for esteem/pride. What amazes me is the "stupidity" involved.

Okay, so you ask for computer assistance during your game. And it's only you and your software sitting in front of your computer, noone else. Nobody will know that you are cheating right? Unfortunately wrong! Proving that you are cheating is probably difficult, but knowing that you are cheating is often very easy.

There are many ways to know if someone is cheating. One simple thing that I want to address here is the fact that there are strength levels in chess. You cannot just "pretend" that you are at 2000 level while you are at 1500. Never think that you are smart and old enough (because many cheaters are smart actually). Because many others are stronger, older and even smarter. You don't know what you haven't know.

So, what is your purpose with asking for computer assistance? Pride? If you know that many other will know that you're cheating, will you be proud of yourself? Of course not. You would feel so silly.

So think twice before you cheat Smile

I don't understand why people come to play chess on here to cheat. There is so many other MORAl ways to boost your ego that are not to hard to do... such as helping the lil old lady walk across the street.

This thread is not about me. I don't have a need to cheat, and I don't care if my opponent is cheating.

But I play faster games anyway, so I cannot see a reason why my opponents have to cheat either. But you can see people with turn base rating above 2000 but blitz rating below 1500, which is impossible.

The thing I don't get is that the people who do this usually are chess players themselves. People damaging their own sport.
I can understand that's fun to try and cheat at something, but not when it damages yourself aswell.

Of course this thread is about you.  It's about your feelings about people who you -- rightly or wrongly -- believe to be cheating.  It's about your anxiety and insecurity regarding same.

To paraphrase the wise fellow above:

Yes, cheating on a website where you have nothing to gain is strange and foolish.

But stressing over it on a website where you have nothing to gain is every bit as strange and foolish.

If you think someone is cheating when you play them, then just don't play them again.  I don't see any reason to make a big issue of it.  It doesn't hurt you, or your game, in the long run.  If someone wants a 3000 rating, and cheats to get it, let them.  What difference does it make?

If i wanted to play against the computer i would not be playing YOU !! Since over 90% of players on this site are rated around 1600 would indicate to me cheating to get ratings is not the goal, but to increase their level of understanding and experience in this complex game THAT is the goal. Should i not expect my opponent to have the integrety and abide by the rules of this site and have the character to not compromise the game that is being played ?
