Michelangelo's David

From a block of stone Michelangelo was able to create David (between 1501 and 1504). This statue symbolizes the work a chessplayer has to go through, in order to become an artist. Burning the midnight oil, we chisel and chisel. With the patience of the Renaissance sculptor himself. People who don't play chess, wonder why we put such lenghty effort into mastering Kings and Queens. But we're creating our own masterpiece. Just like Michelangelo.

The most impressive statue I have seen in real life... the size and detail is just mind blowing. Unfortunately the experience was almost ruined by two words repeated over and over again... "NO PHOTO, NO PHOTO!"

Yes, I too spend hours and hours, burning the midnight oil, patiently chiseling away to create that masterpiece of chess. But mine does not turn out like David. More like . . . .

taffy76, you are indeed previledged to have seen such work of art in the flesh...I also have plans to see some of the greats as well, but too busy at the moment. The "no photo" rule is obviously to prevent security measures from being compromised.
