Might as well use white only

My stats say ive played 130 more games with black. This is due to all the cowards that get 1 win with white and then run away ducking a rematch (gotta love when those cowards leave, then you hit new match and you get matched up against the same person, and they move too fast out of habit and cant abort game so they are forced to play you lol). Anyway, since my records way better with white, i figure i just should play 130 games with white only to even out my record. That way itll give me a fair idea of what my actual rating is and ill most likely crack 1900.

A true chess player should be able to win with both!

Even grandmasters have better records with white, its just how it goes. Thats not the point anyway. The point is playing an even amount of games with both colors. It doesnt matter tho because i found out you cant choose white only if you play rated games.

A true chess player should realize that White has an advantage due to the first move and wins more often than Black. True chess players try to maintain the initiative in the opening with White and more carefully try to gain equality with Black.

Chess players win about 55% of the time with White and 45% of the time with Black.

And I should be given a $500 million lottery jackpot.

Yes, I know, but a chess player should be able to win with Both- even if 5% less with black.

130 games over 4,500+ games is statistical noise grin.png

51.4% isn't too bad really.

I like black when playing bullet. I just disrupt there normal opening or block their castle and it's easy pickings from there.

I generally like playing black because I am not under as much pressure to win. As white people are like "dude I'm white, I gotta win, that's bad if I draw", yeah? Only a paring like x vs x + 300 is where black says "dude I'm black, I gotta win, that's bad if I draw"

Look, grandmaster have better numbers with white because they make so few mistakes that the extra move actually matters.  At pretty much any level beneath 2000 and any time control less than classical, the first move advantage just doesn't matter enough to have a sizable impact on the result of your games.  Don't worry about how much you get white or black, just play, because that advantage is negligible.  Grandmasters have so much opening prep and are so strong that there is a difference between white and black, but for us patzers there is no significant difference.

alexwmcd , youve hit the nail on the head i reckon , good post

Hi.

Please can someone advise me how to only play as black in a live 30 min game? Is this indeed an option as i can't see it any where if it is. It would be much appreciated?

You can't choose a color if you are playing a rated game.  With unrated games, click on custom challenges,  then on color, and then on black

Thank you very much that's great, i'll do that now.

Cheers alexwmcd.

You can do that when you directly challenge someone as well.

White wins more games, so always try to start with white.

Oh i see. Thank you uscftigerprowl.

Well. For the moment i've given up on trying to play as black. It seems people aren't as keen to play unrated games as nobody has accepted yet and i've been trying periodically for half an hour.

Like I mentioned, creating a custom challenge will allow you to choose your color.
