As a lot of you are probably aware of, millennials refer to individuals born at some point in-between 1982 and 1995 and generation Z refers to individuals born at some after 1995 and before the end of 2005. Personally, I have noticed that generation Z chess players are more competitive than the millennial chess players. To cite an example, back in October 2006, for the top 100 18-year olds list [people born in either late 1987 or early-mid 1988), the rating requirement to be in the top 50 in that group is only 1906 (Source: http://www.uschess.org/component/option,com_top_players/Itemid,376?op=list&month=0610&f=18&h=Top%20Age%2018). Now, if you go check the same list for the most recent supplement (June 2018), the rating requirement to be in the top 50 for 18-year olds is 2098 (people born in either late 1999 or early-mid 2000) [Source: http://www.uschess.org/component/option,com_top_players/Itemid,910?op=list&month=1806&f=usa&l=R:Top%20Age%2018.&h=Top%20Age%2018].
Back in the 10/2006 supplement, my rating of 2000 at the age of 18 was high enough to be #32 on that list. Nowadays, it would only be #74 for that age group.
What do you think about the whole millennial chess players vs. Generation Z chess players situation?
