The scenario in post 372.  Highly unlikely.  In order to become an expert player, you have to play expert players, and beat them.  They won't play you if you rating is 1000-1100.

There really are players that have low ratings that get to play master level players often, just not in tournaments. They don't play in tournaments often. I've known some & have tried to get them to play rated chess more often. I don't know about class E players that are expert level but there are certainly players that are expert that have class C ratings & class A level players with class D ratings. They just don't play in tournaments often & they do play experts & masters & class A players often.

Here is Millionaire Chess Partner Amy Lee's views on the 9 doubts or concerns I tried to summarize in a post after looking into discussions in this thread as well as many other sites.

You can build on top of these answers.

So, let me ask this again, is this Amy Lee from that band Evanescence?

Very good Ashik. I hope it does work regardless of what the knucklehead on here (jonesmurphy, since he wanted to drag my name into his crybaby tantrum) keeps whining about. Oooo, I better be careful & walk on eggshells, I might get called prejudiced.

Why the heck is it so hard to get a straight answer on who this Amy Lee lady is.

Avatar of MrDamonSmith

No, it's not that singer.

Avatar of johnmusacha

Oh, ok thanks!

Then, who the bloody hell is she?

La Chacal?

Amy Lee is a business woman.  Go to her website www.amylee.biz.  She has a lot of interesting stuff posted.

I just checked that band out, they're very good. But different Amy Lee.

Avatar of johnmusacha

Yes they were really big in 2003.

Question:  How did "Amy Lee" get involved with this venture?  Has she been a chess sponsor in the past?  Is this as a favor to a friend?

If chess would ever be a major specator sport then it would have already happened long time ago lol! To be honest, if you are not that into the game then it's just like watching paint dry.

What about introducing a few minor rules changes to make Chess more of a spectator sport?

Perhaps like playing it on a field instead of a board.  Board games aren't much of a spectator sport after all.  Perhaps changing the rules to introduce a ball type piece?  Something that could be carried, or kicked, or perhaps thrown?

I like it!

We should change the rules to state that there is only one piece, that is completely spherical. Instead of one player on each side, let's make it 11 each, and let's make the pitch large, say 100m long and 70m wide. Everyone will be barred from using their hands, and the aim will be to put the piece between two posts on either end. We'll call those goals. Ok, we'll allow one player from each team to use their hands, but only when they are near their own goals.

I like it!

Genius!  And what will you call this chess-variant?

Amy Lee met Maurice Ashley at a retreat in  2009.  He had the idea, she had the money, and in August 2013, they formed a partnership.

Avatar of TheRocketKing

there is chessboxing but that doesn't seem to be that popular, more than classical chess though lol

Spectator-friendly chess!

Looks like my idea has caught on.

Today GMs Simeone & Mourinho are facing off in "a real chess match"!
