You'd better learn that your mistakes are supposed to be exploited, that's the whole point of the game. You should be thankful to your opponent for profiting from your mistakes
Misclicks
No, you cant do that.
What happens if your opponent knows about your approach?
Then, in slightly inferior positions, he "obviously" misclicks and gets a draw?
Nope, never ask for it, never grant it, and if you really want to take the moral high ground, refuse when it is offered.
Sorry mate. Whenever I misclick, I just get on with the game. No point whining to my opponent about it. Also I refuse draws whenever an opponent says he misclicks.
I've had guys "misclick" in situations where I have their queen trapped or am obviously winning, then get offended when I refuse a draw.
I disagree. I stipulated that I wasn't talking about worse positions and so forth. There are fairly obvious times when a misclick is obviously nothing but-- like on move 4 when white ruins his castle. I fully agree with you, Waller, that in your situation, the "misclick" is an attempt to weasel out. That's not what I'm talking about. And sure mistakes are to be exploited, but the point of the game is to capitalize on strategic, tactical, or concentration mistakes, not on wonky mouses. Ah, well.
If I misclick I usually resign straight away, say I misclicked (after resigning) and offer a rematch. Noone has refused yet. Don't accept a draw or play a "null move" when someone says they misclicked.

Fair enough. Also, I had a thought: What if you evaluate the position as winning for you, and your opponent also evaluates it as winning for him? What happens then if you misclick?
Also, I think even obvious misclicks are just part and parcel of the game in Live Chess. It tends to even itself out over time.
Misclicks happen. I don't give any mercy for them, and I don't expect any for them. Internet chess is different than OTB chess, and being able to click on the right square is part of it.
[...real chess, which this site is presumably supposed to represent, such a thing would never happen.]
Not really.
There are "misclicks" when you play OTB. Most games are touch move. I used to grant draws to "misclicks," but when I asked others for the same consideration I was universally denied. Now it's live and let die!
Sometimes I offer a draw if the misclick is obvious and happened early in the game. But not if it happened toward the end of the game under time pressure, or if I was winning anyway.

Agreed. Under those conditions I wouldn't either.
Didn't we already have this conversation in another thread, wherein I brought up the fact that lower-rated players could abuse this "gentleman's agreement" when playing against higher-rated players for an easy draw?
I guess it works between friends, but you shouldn't expect it to become common practice.
In an ideal world there is no such thing as ELO ratings
.... where the heinzies roam free, all the grass they can eat and a place in heaven assured.
On the rare occasion when my opponent makes an obvious misclick, I tend to offer a draw and agree to one if he asks for it. It seems like both good sportsmanship and a no-brainer to me, since in real chess, which this site is presumably supposed to represent, such a thing would never happen. However, when I make a misclick on occasion, I've found that some opponents greedily capitalize on it. Thoughts?
* BTW, I am talking about unambigious misclicks, such as ruining your own castling in an even position, not claimed misclicks when the misclicker is down.
