Misleading statement from a news article from Chess.com

It doesn't seem misleading at all to me. It's not confusing, and certainly not shocking. He did in fact beat the world champion. It wasnt a match, it was a tournament. Think of it like a golf tournament. To win the tournament, you dont have to beat someone (like the worlds best) in any given round. You just have to beat them when the total score is added up, and thats what he did. The tournament winner had a better score (beat) everyone else, including the world champion.

Hello,
I would like to share to you this news I have received from chess.com in my inbox today. I was literally shocked about the misleading and confusing statement. It says:
"Fabiano Caruana is proving he is a force on the chessboard and a top-tier threat to become the next world champion. The American grandmaster took home clear first place in the prestigious Altibox Norway Chess tournament, beating the world's top players including his world-championship opponent later this year, Magnus Carlsen."
Though it may mean that Caruana won ahead of Carlsen it fails to convey that Carlsen actually beat him in their individual encounter. This is carelessness on the part of chess.com and this should not have escaped the scrutiny of the editorial staff. I have nothing against chess.com or Caruana. I just want to bring this to your attention as it borders the boundaries of being "fake news".
Regards,
Sir Glenn
