Don't you think it is a bit sexist to judge a man or a woman because her/his physical appearance?

Don't you think it is a bit sexist to not be asexual?

They are chess players. We should talk about the way they play chess.

They shouldn't mention it unless the women are doing semi-nude photo shoots laying on and around chess boards and pieces. Then it should be fair game.

I don't think it is necessarily sexist.  IAlthough some comments in this thread are sexist.)  Some chess players prefer to "Dress for Success.," and I assume it is to make a statement.  Nazi Paikidze could have worn a sweat suit to her US Ch games, but chose to dress fashionably to accentuate her fit form.  Bobby Fischer made a statement in the early 60's when he went from dressing like a scruffy teen to wearing tailored suits.  His statement:  "I am a Chess Professional and chess is a worthy profession.."  It stood out in contrast to many of his middle-aged opponents wearing wrinkled, colorless suits and, usually, a butt hanging from their mouths.  (Of course, Spassky was very stylish, as were Keres and Smylsov and a few others.)  But Fishcer's "makeover" did get the attention of both chess fans as well as the press.

Women chess professionals who choose to be stylish (and sexy) are making a statement that women who play chess can also be feminine.  It is a good message to send to teen girls who may fear that playing chess will make them appear to be "sexless."  The world is changing, but some things remain constant.
