I hadn't played through all the championship match games of the past, because I would skip the draws unless the author insisted the draw was worth playing through. That is until the Topalov-Anand match. So, having played through all the games of that match and all the games of the Gelfand-Anand match, I think the Topalov-Anand match was more exciting.
Most Exciting World Championship Matches
Thanks for the feedback, trysts. I was mainly curious about matches before Kasparov-Kramnik, but I'll check out Anand-Topalov. I didn't find Anand-Gelfand to be very interesting, like pretty much the entire rest of the chess world.
I'll probably just go through all the WC match games from Capablanca on, although I was hoping to hear if somebody had really strong feelings that, say, Botvinnik-Bronstein or some other match was especially interesting.
I think you asked an interesting question that I would like to know people's opinion on as well, sapientdust
Tal-Botvinnik 1960 is one the great clashes of styles. The magician of Riga is at the top of his game against the iron logician. Tal's book on the match is one the classics of chess literature and the best WC match book ever. However, and unquestionably, the most dramatic match ever is Fischer-Spassky 1972. Fischer didn't just take on Spassky but the whole Soviet school that defined chess for over forty years. Fischer started a revolution before going MIA.

Thanks, my friend! I'll definitely check out Tal-Botvinnik 1960. That's exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for.
Do you think Fischer-Spassky was also the most dramatic purely in terms of what happened over the board? That is, if it weren't Bobby against the Ruskies and there was nothing interesting except possibly what happened over the board, would you still rate Fischer-Spassky highly? I've seen a couple of really beautiful games from that match, but I haven't played through all the games, and haven't seen enough other WC match games to be able to make an accurate comparison.
Does anybody have any opinions about World Championship matches that featured especially interesting and exciting chess?
Which matches that you've played through all the games of have you enjoyed the most?
