I don't think most people cheat. In addition I could say that if you truly do posses a 1750 rating on standard if you were winning it doesn't matter if Garry Kasparov tries to save a lost position it should just be a matter of tecnique and you should win regardless.
most players cheat in more than 5 min games

really zxb? i challenge u to play deep rybka or fritz with one rook up.. ok i will give u one queen up... try and beat it!

Most people? Like what, 51%? That's a pretty high number, so I hope you're ready to back that up with factual statistics.
Or, could it be possibly that you're just not very good in the end game and your opponents are?

I virtually stopped playing rated games for that reason. I know i can't prove that people are cheating but i do sometimes get a feeling they are. anyway, i was losing games because of my bad connection and also was a good excuse to play UNRATED games instead. people are less likely to cheat you and also the internet rating sytem is not that accurate or realistic anyway. WHY DO THEY DO IT? GOD KNOWS THERE ONLY CHEATING THEMSELVES

I am rated in the 1200 range and just got 2nd in an open Blitz tournament. I beat several players rated well over 1500. I wonder if thay think I cheated. The fact is I have never bothered to figure how to use the computer to play for me...This may sound stupid but is that how they do it?

If you really suspect your opponent of cheating then you owe it to yourself & everyone else on this site to report it - here's a link...

..there's even a category for it (the ninth one down)!
I've been playing for some time on this site & play (practically) only long time-control games but I'm not aware of cheating in any one of them. There was only one time I had a suspicion because I got myself into a fix against a much lower ranked player but now I realise that happened because I played so carelessly.
Cheating does occur on this site but it's much less widespread than the OP claims, or he's being very unlucky. You can check on members who've been caught cheating here..

..o/k, it looks like a lot of people until you remember just how many members there are on this site!

anybody can do it but i don't really want to encourage it. it's very simple and you just need very basic computer knowledge. maybe its for some kind of ego boost? it's not that clever anyway and it's only temporary until reality kicks in or somebody drops you in it:)

Truth: The time spent reporting an alleged Cheat can be used to play few more games to win back the lost rating points.
However, I think there was a solution- the Aww-Rats standard time control group which pairs up legitemate players at a given time.

If a 1500 rated player is cheating and playing at 2200 level, why is his rating still 1500?
his rating has to be estabished over a period of time. the longer time the more accurate. sorry i did it wrong cos im not used to this

I've had amazingly accurate opponents at those time controls over at Yahoo! Chess. It's amazing how they have a Nakamura like talent to calculate deeply and very accurately at such speeds. Some are even rated over 3000! A whole group of people better than Kasparov or Carleson! Such a phenominon is unprecedented in chess when IMs and even GMs oftentimes make many more mistakes at higher time controls.
hi. i have been playing chess for quite some. Whenevr i play a 10 min game i see that sometimes at the end of the game the quality of play of my opponent suddenly increases. i was 1750+ now it dropped to 1680. i dont mind losing but when i play 1500 players, i am beaten hands down sometimes. they play like they are 2200+. My point is why play against human opponents and use a computer. what is the point in increasing your stupid points and winning if u are cheating? i guess i have to stick to 1 and 3 min games. MOST ppl cheat and u can feel it. i wish chess.com cud do something abt it.
