When the OP doesn't respond to the posts.

Because he is a coward. To scared to face the harsh truth.

I like a game during my dinner break at work and don't have time for a second game.

RoobieRoo

Only a masochist wants a rematch after getting beaten up.

Judging from the comments on his wall, you're probably right.

Yes, the way I see it is, if you can’t give your opponent at least one rematch – – that is, of course, if you can play—Then you’re a coward. If you don’t grant at least one rematch, but you continuing playing others, then I brand you a coward. If you don’t grant a rematch, but you also stop playing altogether for a while, then I figure you only had time for one game. That happens to me sometimes.
JustOneUSer

People also forget that half the time when someone “declines” your rematch, they’re actually halfway through another game. I’ve had PMs and notes left of people saying things like “coward”, when in fact I’ve declined their match from another game.

Your not entitled a rematch. Someone who doesn’t give you one isn’t a coward. I personality really like rematches, but not everyone does. Get over it.

It says a lot about the person.

It also creates a coward and unpleasant app when you’re stuck playing cowards too scared to lower their rating.

Not going to argue here - just point out that sometimes people are fitting in a quick game on a break, or maybe someone rang the door bell, or called on the phone, or dinners ready. I would not be quite so quick to assume you know why someone does not offer a rematch.

That said, I love playing 4-6 games against the same opponent. you get some concentrated practice in certain openings which is always helpful.

glamdring27

There are zero reasons to play a rematch against a random opponent on a server of 50,000+ players.  But certainly there are people who get irate that they couldn't switch on their engine to get their petty revenge after a defeat.

PaGanG14

If I beat you, why would I want to give you a chance at redeeming yourself? You lost. Try to lose less.

"Mostly cowards here..."?

Better a live coward than a dead hero

Lame reason not to accept a rematch: I beat you. How about proving that you beat me rather than running? Especially with online games, it’s easy to slip or for there to be a digital glitch or something. You have every reason to except a rematch: to prove that you really beat the person. If you think someone’s cheating, by using an engine, report them.
Zardorian
Most people don’t accept rematches because they can sense during the game that the other person is better, but just had a major stumble, slip or something. But overall, they can sense the other person is better. If you’re just here to raise your score, rather than truly learn how to play better, then you’re a coward.
JustOneUSer

1. None of us really have any idea what “most” people accept or decline rematches for- so that “most” is completely subjective and based on little-no evidence. In my case, for example, i actually receive far more requests from players who have beaten ME.
2. If you want to get better, instead of just rematching an opponent you know you could and should have beat, to increase your rating, why not play a new opponent to expose yourself to different styles of play? Or to maybe get someone more challenging? Instead of getting all worked up and trying to physiologically analyse your opponent? Why cant we just... chill?

JustOneUSer

Anyway why do i owe it to you to prove that i can beat you? No one is on this site is here to prove to one specific person they can beat them at chess- and anyway, if we rematched after every game we considered someone got “lucky” or “unlucky”, virtually every bullet game and the majority of (lower rated, at least) blitz games could be considered rematch worthy. Getting randomly lucky or not is just part of the game- statistically, you are likely for your opponent to get unlucky as much as you are, so it will all average itself out anyway.

This whole thing seems like a non-issue to me.

Strangemover

The rematching whingeing is nonsense, but it would be a nice feature to be able to challenge a best of 3 or best of 5. Abandoned games would be counted as a loss with appropriate loss of rating.

batgirl

Win, lose or draw, I decline all rematch offers vs strangers.  I don't need a reason, a justification or an excuse.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but most people on an internet chess server don't give a flying fig about you (or me, or anyone else).  You're not a person, you're just some internet handle who is there to be played once then instantly forgotten as irrelevant as people move on to play the next person.  The idea that anyone gives two hoots about proving they are better than some random nobody on the internet is ridiculous.  We just play games of chess against 'someone', then against someone else.  Doesn't matter who the someone is, I'll have forgotten them 10 minutes later anyway.  Certainly I don't care whether they beat me or I beat them.

Proving that you beat someone is trivial.  Games are recorded in people's history.  So if I won a game against you then it says right there that I beat you, for what it's worth, which, incidentally, is nothing.

zembrianator

OP is correct. I never accept rematches and I know in my heart I am a coward.
