Move. Its your Turn

If you told your opponent to move faster in an OTB game, you would be warned by the arbiter.  I don't understand why so many people whine about people playing by the rules.  Your opponent is perfectly entitled to use every last second of his time to choose his move.  You are not entitled to distract him with patronising comments.

1. I have no idea what you're talking about.

2. Please answer the question posed to you in my origonal post or admit you are wrong about this and apologise to your opponent.

And WRITING IN CAPS REALLY PROVES WHATEVER THE HECK YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY.

You can take up to 14 days to take your move in OTB.  The mere concept of asking anyone in this format to get a move on is a misunderstanding on your part of the whole point of it.  Go and play live you impatient rapscallion.

I have time per move under 2 hours.  I have a summer job outside for over 8 hours each day, so when I come home to check games I like to look over the games, but not submit until my mind is fresh.  Sometimes I'm in the mood to play 10 moves in one day versus another.

But this author has no right to ask a person why he is not submitting, even though they are online.  You deserved to get that response.  I am on this site sometimes to see forums like this, and not to play.

That's pretty weak of you, and although you are probably an intelligent person, that really wasn't thinking.  Everyone though does stupid things once in a while.

And bla...bla...bla. Come on Guys.................... Chill. This is a forum not a chess board where everything goes the way you have planned it Wink. If you think that your boasting could stop someone from doing what he/she consider right, you are damn wrong.

Yes! you have forced me to be arrogant. Do ya think only because you have better rating is sufficient to make you winners? You are probably of the same type................ Why let new-commers talk?

Accept it guys, you all are suffering from losing-nightmares. This is a game that teaches to behave. If you cant, your RATING MEANS NOTHING. You still might be LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSERS in real life.

So you can write whatever sh-t you want to, dont think the person you are writing to would lack responses.............. As unlike a chess board, I refuse to accept your attempts of domination.

And that wins the prize of "Dumbest Post of the Day".

Congratulations.

And I am obliged to receive it from the dumbest guy on planet Earth.

Thanx boss.

Avatar of xFiredx

It's a cheap ploy designed to unsettle their opponent.  The best response is to take longer than you normally would to move.  Of course, this may lead to people like Nabeel accusing you of being a "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSER", but thankfully there aren't many of these people around.

Avatar of Nabeal

Another remarkable remark to prove that  Fired still is THE BOSS of all LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSERS. Such bull........ I hope your followers do whatever you want them to do afterall they will also be FIRED.

As Jim Morisson would say, "people are strange, when you're a stranger".  I prefer the term "sheeple".  Everyone plays differently for different reasons.  What I am learning from playing chess on this site is that the real deal is OTB.  If you are not playing OTB, then you can expect every type of peculiar behavior online that you would get at any other type of "social networking" site.  You can also expect the same obtuse, cavalier, and insensitive comments that you would get at any other site, as well.  If you are looking for sympathy and/or  understanding, then you are looking in the wrong place, as you can ascertain from all of the comments alread posted in this thread.

You have the right to ask, but don't expect.  And repeatedly asking is at least as rude.  If they are really lost suggest once that the game is over.  If they want to keep going at a legal pace that is their right.

Avatar of xFiredx

You have no right to ask, if you did that OTB you would be warned by the arbiter.  It's as simple as that.  How your opponent uses his time has nothing to do with you.  You agree to a set time control but want to change that time control once you're winning?  That makes no sense whatsoever.

Avatar of Doctorjosephthomas

Yes that does make sense.  Think about it and you will realize that how they use their time does have something to do with the opponent.  I never said anything about changing the time control, winning or not.  There is nothing wrong with politely asking once.  As I said, repeats are rude.  This is not OTB.  There are different dynamics and rules involved.  I think we agree, as I have said, that they have they right to play within the rules.  I never claimed otherwise.  Since the rules here allow a polite request(rules in other settings if not stated here do not apply)then that is also within the rules.  Rude attempts to "control" an opponent are always wrong.

I totally agree. Those big mouths forgot to read what I had mentioned in my origial post. Thanx for cooling down the affair.

Your point noted. And I never said all are big mouths...Smile. You see there are more polite ways to express yourself instead of making personal remarks.

Just anyone who disagrees with you.  Wink

I don't buy this "it's okay to ask if you're polite" thing.  Is it okay to ask your opponent to resign too?  There's no reason why you should be asking your opponent anything.  If he wants to move faster, he'll move faster.  If he doesn't want to, that's his choice and you have no right to try and influence how he uses his time.  It's nothing more than a distraction and it's just rude.

When I first started playing at chess.com I got really annoyed by slow-timers and bad sports.  But now I just accept the fact that some people are such bad losers that they will use the maximum time allotted in the hope that you accidentally time-out. For this reason I never play 1 day games, preferring the standard 3 days. I also don't let bad losers annoy me. At the end of the day they're the ones with a problem - not us.
