Move timeout

There have been many matches where I had a winning position, but my opponent decided to let me wait 10 minutes without moving any piece in the hope I'd leave the match. Especially in 15|10 matches, a movve should be done after 5 minutes.... isn't that possible?

old post I know but I'm having the same problems, your playing away ,both making moves at a decent rate and you either make a good move or your opponent makes a bad one and they're caught, possibly losing the queen or something similar and they stop playing, rather than having the decency to resign they just do nothing , there must be a way to stop the timeout , possibly by having move verification and making the move but then declining it I don't know, but in a rapid game I have sat for 25 minutes waiting for the opponent to move, a couple of times a minute before the end f the game they make a sky move to see if your still paying attention.

how do you stop this from happening, if you pull out to spend your time playing a someone with a sense of decency you get a loss despite a winning position, this is clearly a tactic used by some and should not be rewarded. I'm only rated very poorly as I've just started playing chess but that's not the point, I can handle not getting the win but not a cheating player getting it through such means . I hope chess.com finds a way to prevent players circumnavigating the timeout and banning players using these methods.

For the reasons stated above I only play 5/0 and 3 day.

a couple of times I've been playing a person and caught them in a bind and they've sat there for a while and played a killer move, totally unlike any of there previous moves and I wondered about people using an engine , I got message from chess.com stating an opponent I'd played had been caught violating fair play rules and adjusting my rating, it was good they got caught and paid for it but it left me thinking I'd rather someone use an engine because a. there cheating themselves and b. they are gonna get caught but with the timeout there is nothing you can do and they will go on and do it again and again.

I think this problem is slowly getting better just by educating more people that resigning is appreciated and not rude.
