Mutual Draw

During a recent game ( approaching the end game) , it became obvious my opponent would lose badly.

During my opponents next  Move the game ended and “Abort” appeared on the screen, as opposed to abandon.

None of the rules for a mutual draw were met , yet the screen says Mutual Draw .

How could my opponent accomplish this ?

I am livid !!

If both players get disconnected from the live server process the game ends as an aborted draw

And what would cause both players to lose comment ion at the same instant ?

I never lost connection as far as I know .

To Whom It May Concern, I don't remember what happened on my end , but if I accidently caused an improper fileing of our game , please know it was not my intent. Sincerely Les Tom Palacio

Sometimes, the server resets, causing current games to be aborted. It happens at 1 AM EST.

Most games are now played on distributed servers and there aren’t weekly resets for those.

There are a lot of things that cause disconnects. It doesn’t happen often that both players are disconnected, but the system would normally give the win to the connected player, if they had sufficient material to mate. However, there’s a check and if the server can’t connect to both players, then it will abort the game instead of giving the game to one of the players.

For what it’s worth :

The above referenced game fails to show up on my list of played games.

The game ended on an Abort after 20 minutes , and upon closing that screen it showed a secondary screen of a Draw . I had a great deal of difficulty getting out of that screen as it put me in a repetitive loop. Only after turning the I pad off was I able to return to the main menu.

many thanks, Tim

Correct, aborted games will not show in the player archives.

Were you using the app when you had trouble leaving the screen?
