My beginner son plays nothing but smurfs. Why does Chess.com allow so much sandbagging?

We pay for gold but honestly feel like we should just go to Lichess for free.

He is 9 and fairly low rated 500’s. Sometimes he plays very weak players (sandbaggers) that seemingly intentionally blunder their queen. Other times he plays very strong players that impress me, I am around 1400-1500 rapid.

Is there something going on at these ratings? There is extreme inconsistency. We have a gold account for him and review games but it is frustrating for him to have such wildly different skill opponents.

Was looking at his last three games and see no signs of cheating from the opponents in which he missed some fairly easy winning plans.

I am 1700 - 1800 rapid player, and teach kids at elementary schools that are at the same level

I got this response.  Note, I am NOT talking about cheating.  I am talking about sandbagging and intentional losing.  So I am around 1500 and some of his opponents seem way too good while others seem awful for that level.

Look at this game:

Intentionally sacrificing pieces but others are very tough and strong opponents.

Blunders are normal. These are low rated players so of course they blunder a lot. Everyone does.
