My chess rating and iq

Hello everybody

I've recently joined this forum. I'm not looking to get really good, but halfway decent. I've been playing chess on and off for the past 10 years or so, since I was 11. I won the grade 5 chess tournament, doubt my rating was 1000. Eventually, I joined the high school chess team, after not playing for 6 or so years. My rating probably went up to 1200 very quickly. After a year of being semi-serious I hit 1400 more or less, and couldn't progress further even if I wanted to. Currently am a 1100 or so. I can smoke just about every casual player, but whenever I play online, I get stomped. Am I stupid because no matter what I did I couldn't progress further than 1400? I have ADD and am slightly autistic, and have no patience. I managed to finish college, can speak 2 languages fluently, 1 fairly well and learning a 4th one at the moment.

Sounds like you never tried to actively study chess.  Not many people are privileged to be born with Morphy or Capablanca chess intuition...

I really tried to get past 1400 or so, got books, chessmaster, just didn't happen. I could beat simple java chess programs in my prime, but I can't even do that now....

Update I'm worse than what I thought, I got stomped by a guy below 1000 Elo points( I'm under 900), I don't feel like I've gotten much worse. Personally, I don't lose pieces easily, I just can't come up with a good strategy.
