I have a friend of Russian origin named Brazil. He is indeed born in Russia but moved to NYC in 1978 at age 18. He is called Brazil because he lived in Brazil for a time & truly loves Rio de Janeiro & the abundance of inexpensive whores one can find there. Brazil grew up in Moscow and worked at a famous chess school sponsored by the Soviet Government. At this school Brazil got to know many of the leading figures in the Soviet chess world. His job was to run errands for them, get coffee, newspapers & other small favors for the players. Also during big tournaments he would post the latest move on the board for the public to follow. Brazil describes in human candid detail many of the names I have a deep reverence for: Kasparov, Korchnoi, Spassky, Karpov, Tal & many others. Anybody who was anybody in the Soviet Chess world came to this club in Moscow & made use of Brazil for any errand they may have needed. Brazil has shared many human details I can find in no book & has inspired me to want to write a book on his memoirs although he is reluctant to expound his remembrances in any formal way. Only he likes to drop a tidbit or two over dinner once in a while.
