Look at GM games, watch move by move what they do. Play against the engine level maximum, what was your fault, why did he bet you, learn from your loses, play games with a lot of time, even correspondence games. Post your games on the analyse topic and ask where you did wrong.
My game is getting dull.

if it's dull then try new openings and play against slightly better opponents (not much better because they'll pulverize you and you'll be none the wiser).

As has been said , play through some master games. "Adopt" a great player eg Fischer, Kasparov etc and get their annotated games.Play through and try and guess the next move, covering the page with a piece of card - try to visual the position a few moves ahead.

try playing the dutch and many different openings so you get a broader view into different kinds of plans

Change your live chess settings to find players 100-200 pts higher than your own rating and also try playing the Bird's Opening (f4), it can be very aggressive while also teaching you about king safety.

What about the bishop attack? Ive been using this opening recently and found that its by far my favorite. However, it doesn't work well when playing higher ranked opponents.

How do you study chess? What title of books do you read? About a year is not long enought, it can take sometime for chess improvement.

a great way to improve your skills is to do hours of tactic trainers/chess puzzles. Thats one way but you have to have a base which is your opening. Do you have a reliable opening that you can work your game around?

what bishop attack are you talking about? Are you talking about the italian opening with the bishop coming out before the knight?
By all means play better players.
Studying master games can help but you will get more bang for the buck by rote practice. There is a book called Rapid Chess Improvement. It includes exercises that promote better pattern recognition and blunder reduction. If you cut your blunders in half then your performace skyrockets. At your level not completely understanding the minute subtleties of a position is less harmful than hanging pieces all the time.
Ive been playing opponents of the same rank or lower. I feel like this is making my game dull, no improvement at all. I've been playing chess for about a year and my rating is 1050-1150, which is below average if not horrible. Any suggestions?
