just prove your parents you are not addicted to it and that you are still doing well in life. reading what you said that's what your parents are afraid of I think. so after all, I should not even focus on convincing them to like or hate chess (everyone has different interests)

He IS addicted to it. He says that he plays in the middle of the night…

True... but maybe he should just play it less, that would make it easier.

mediocrity or consumed by passion. Pick your poison.

with any luck, you also have talent, and can focus your pseudo-autism in the right direction and achieve greatness. If you are as obsessed as you seem to be, you may be one of the heavy hitters in your local scholastic scene, and make some grand memories and earn people's respect. Who knows, maybe you  can reach further...

dont listen to optimissed though, he wants you to become a fit tax paying accountant. Boomers be boomering.

THECHESSMAN_78

it's just like any other addiction though you cant just play less

Llama47's suggestion makes some sense but who in their right mind would give up drinking and chasing women to play chess again ?! These are the main reason that youngsters stop playing.

in what country? all the talented youngsters i know that stopped playing did so because 1. fancy pants school they got accepted to, absorbed the rest of their time and their illustrious careers began or 1. they found out the hard way, the road to IM/GM is arduous and something else like poker is better.

It could be worse, they could be forcing you to play chess.

Take up drinking and smoking and chasing women.

When you quit those and start playing chess they'll be thrilled!

There's a bit of a flaw in this idea. You're assuming the OP will be able to quit drinking and smoking and chasing women....... He may not. He may end up like Tal, doing all of them at the same time.

Tal was a Doctor too ! wink.png

PERFECT SOLUTION

KrakeKnight0130

depends on where you live, some libraries have computers and you could play on those, or go to aa friends house and play.
