The science and history curriculum is severely lacking in most homeschools. In fact, that’s a key reason for choosing them.
My School Just Banned Chess.com

The OP just announced that they have unbanned the school. And I was enjoying another pointless conversation. Let's just ignore him.

Bro some teachers be to boring lol
The point of school is to learn. My guy not everything has to be fun.

teachers could relate to? bc the book had curse words and subjective themes thats why it was banned. The whole name catcher in the rye is based on holden caufield misinterpreting a poem and misinterpreting what it means to be an adult bc he felt he could see flaws in adults so he was one. Its thematically wayy to heavy handed it's not a bad book I just dont think it's great. the only thing that special is that while the authors contemporary's were writing war novels he took his shell shock and ptsd and made catcher in the rye. that too me is the only interesting thing. I know this bc I had to read it like 3 times in school. now Kurt Vonnegut he is a true lierary genius
There are competent critics who agree with you, but they are not the norm. Most students of literature recognize the work as a masterpiece.
I agree on Vonnegut. He even said on the back of Palm Sunday, "this is a great work by an American genius", or something to that effect. I read the back cover in the early 1980s and never read the book, so my memory of his self-blurb may be slightly off.

Nice to hear people talking about Vonnegut. Not everybody read him back in the seventies. I consider everything up to Dead Eye Dick his greatest works. That was the last one that I read because I felt he had pretty much lost his fire. I realize, hope, that may not be true. I rate his first four greatest works as Cat's Cradle, Breakfast of Champions, Sirens of Titan and then Slaughterhouse 5. Slaughterhouse didn't fit the mold of his other writings. It had more of a real story, based on his own experiences in the war, and that's why it's the only movie they ever made, until Breakfast. Happy Birthday Wanda June was put together by a crew at the local PBS in Boston. When Vonnegut found out about it he gladly joined in and he does a cameo in the film, which is hilarious. YouBube maybe. Never thought of myself as a post-modernist. We were Freaks in the seventies. The Hippies failed. We ruled the world until Clinton got booted out. Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.

the point of school is federal babysitting and sucking gov cheese. dont be naive

chatgpt is the beginning of the end for our obsolete school systems. good riddance. an intellectually capable 9th grader should be doing 1st year of community college, not spend 8 hours with his butt on a chair learning in months what should be learned in 12 weeks.

chatgpt let alone cant even do college math, and you are expecting it to absolutely destroy the school system? and also, unless you are gifted, no 9th grader can do 1st year of community college.

@TotallyFancy You're doin' just fine. Nice to see a woman giving the boys a run for their money. Congrats on making it to the upper echelon here.

Maybe you know why I'll never read Catcher ever again. Please don't say anything. Let 'em figure it out on their own. I don't like to think about it. That was a horrible day.

you have no idea what you are talking about. in many other nations the last two years of high school are equivalent to the two the first two years of college in the U.S. cutting back two years is a matter of temporal efficiency with streamlined curriculum more than giftedness
source; been in every gifted program you can imagine. finished my first two years of college before starting senior year of high school, which is why imm a high school dropout.. if all those useless high school classes which suck time as good as they suck tax payers dollars would not have been required, i would have finished my sooner.
people think children are morons, so we rather mantain our bloated public school system which consistently costs like 8k+ per kid per annum for subpar service
I like public schools more because then you actually get to interact with others, instead of being locked in your house while everyone else is at public or private school, leaving you with your parents (if they even are home).
