My style vs mentors

Hi,

Ok, I find myself rather well versed with the moves and styles of chess and can adapt fairly quickly to anothers style of playing.

However, using the chess mentor to force the correct moves that are required I struggle and dont sometimes understand the logic.

My past of playing chess is rather liquid, but what gain do I have when using the mentor games if I dont understand the logic?

I don't think it so much an issue of style as it is understanding the principle-  like using the two bishops or whatever and then calculating out the correct moves to accomplish the principle.

stevenjm2

Agreed, but that is in crunch positions, the prelude and the escape from another player with their own style etc cant be tought by the mentor, the principles - in a constrained enviroment can.

Yup, style only gets you so far.

Then you reach a position where all playing styles should make the same move.

with that logic closing, I know get it - i have also been doing more of the mentor tasks and starting to get the concept :)

Read what Chess Mentor tells you in column to understand the moves.
