I asked in a thread how do strong people train tactics, and I got some interesting answers:
- Play slow, try to calculate the lines; it is not about guessing, but about calculations and learning new
- don't care about your rating. The biggest reward in solving tactics is to improve the tactical skills and improve calculation.
- There are different suggestions on books or even YouTube videos which are suited to learn. I have already a lot of books, so I will not buy new ones. Some people believe that it is useful if you train with a book which is structured by themes. I have among others "Chess Tactics from Scratch - UCT 2nd Edition" by Martin Weteschnik; I think it is a great book to understand the "anatomy" of different themes in chess tactics. But the main work will be working here with TT. But it doesn't matter really, you can make your exercises with a physical book, a eBook, or even using YouTube (pausing the video to solve the problems, of course). Who cares, important is to train regularly, right?
Is somebody interested in a club where we can try to keep us motivated to do tactics in TT? I think we could agree to do at least 50 exercises per day, but the minimum should be 30. I just want to commit myself to do the exercises regularly, and discuss which problems we have to solve the exercises. We can share also tips to improve our efficiency. As I said, I have a lot of books and I would try to use them in the club to help people to improve.
