A reasonable goal is learning how the pieces are actually moving, and not bothering at all about your rating.
N00b Prop?
I know how the pieces move...
I play for more than 40 years, and still I do not know how they are moving very well.
Have been playing some and doing tactics problems but still feel like I don't have a good idea of how to analyze the board and figure out my next move...
Don't bother looking up openings. Rather, spend some time on tactics trainer... It is pretty good.
Play some 5|0 games against Computer1. Experiment with different openings untill you find one you like.
It doesn't make sense to set a goal for a certain rating before you've played enough to determine what your rating currently is. So far you have not done terribly well online. I think your first goal should be to buy some beginner books on basic chess principles, or at least to start reading a lot of the articles here. When you have a few wins under your belt, you'll have an idea of where you stand.

Anyone interested in doing a prop about getting to a certain ELO after 6m or 1y? I currently only know how the pieces move. Would like to set a reasonable goal for 1y...maybe 1700?
I have a decent amount of time to devote...not sure what a reasonable goal is. Anyone interested?
