Na3?

I was in game explorer yesterday and saw that white wins often after Na3. Why? It seems like a extremely terrible move to me.

The move is sub-optimal but has some novelty value. Also, the White player gets a position that he's familiar with, that Black probably isn't.

Furthermore, Black may be a little pschologically affected by the move: "Jeez! this guy thinks he can beat me with patzer moves" etc.

If White Plays 1. Na3 ??? then Black just Pushes all of his Centre & Bishop Pawns!  and Steam Rollers White!!

Sure, if White isn't allowed another move.

Game Explorer lists only 5 games starting with 1.Na3.  White won 80% of these, but 5 games is simply too few for that statistic to reflect anything about the quality of the move.  In fact, since Game Explorer lists only 5 games, the logical conclusion is that 1.Na3 is an inferior opening.

PROOF! Stats lie!!

Okay, I should rephrase what I said.  The fact that Games Explorer lists only 5 games for 1.Na3 does not prove that 1.Na3 is an inferior opening.  Instead, it proves that the vast majority of chess.com members chose not to play it, presumably because they think it is an inferior opening.  They could, of course, be wrong.

Personally, against Na3??? I prefer to use Arby's chess system.

I flip a coin 6 times, it lands on heads 5 times. In conclusion, the coin will always land on heads 5/6 times.

Total Bollo# 50/50

You cracked the code

I dont think that he was trying to make a case that 1.Na3 is move that wil be used by gm's or even by players reg. above 2300. does it throw away the advantage of the first move? yes. does it set alot ofproblems for black esp. in a 40/2 game probably not. but it is still nevertheless playable, and if you are playing against someone with a solid opening book/ or at rapid time controls. it can lead to interesting games.

Basically 1.Na3 is lost! the Idea is to Win!! i.e Get an Advantage for White at Move 1

1.Na3 can not be "lost" since it is no worse (probably slightly better) than if white had "passed" (not moved at all).  In other words, when white makes a somewhat passive opening move like 1.Na3, white is essentially telling black "you be white, and I'll be black".  So 1.Na3 can not logically be considered lost, unless the standard starting position is considered lost for black (which is incorrect according to the existing statistics on millions of games).

That's how we learn at the beginning, trial and error.

Keep up the good work.

BAD! Learning can stay with One for the rest of their life! Best to start Good! & remain Good!

You could also play from time to time.

I think it best that you travel to Imaginationland. Only there will you encounter chess players who give your opinion any credence, a wondrous place full of half-wits and the desperately gullible.

There you can be The Next Big Thing, but not here, amongst the thinking.

That match happened in your imagination?

By the way, my challenge for your "Arb Chess System" is still open.
