Nakamura's next chance

When is Nakamura's next chance at Carlsen? I don't see anything upcoming.

Naka needs to focus on qualifying for the next candidates. Nothing else. Him & his cans of Red Bull can get slapped all across the board by Carlsen & his orange juice again later but right now he needs to qualify. He needs to gear up for the very next Grand Prix tournament & view it with extreme seriousness, like his life depends on it. He has to focus on being consistent, not trying to get cute wins so fans will go ooo & aah.

Just score points Naka, that's all. Magnus will kick your butt again some other time, there's no hurry.

(Mr DS)....view it with extreme seriousness, like his life depends on it. He has to focus on being consistent, not trying to get cute wins so fans will go ooo & aah....perfectly said....He needs to play like his career depends on it - because it does !....and check that phony confidence baggage in to a one-way trip back to Hawaii !

I gotta disagree. Nakamura's has no chance to be WC as long as Carlsen is alive. He'll make a lot of more money keeping his fans with his creative play.

Right Lola. I think Naka would actually get stronger (maybe a little bit anyway) if he just closed his ego driven mouth & tried to set out to prove he's got more talent & skill. It's not about ratings anymore at this point, the rating has gotten him invited to the super tournaments, it's now about results. Only results.

I don't mean to sound too critical, but it's always better to consciously rid your ego if you can 'cuz it can only hurt you - especially in problem solving.

So no time soon it sounds like.

He declined the invitation to the Norway tournament, so maybe in Tal Memorial, whenever that is supposed to be played.

I don't see anything upcoming ever.  Nakamura will never have a chance against Carlsen.

I think Naka's playing a very clever game running his mouth.

He is trying to sell himself and Chess to a mostly apathetic US audience raised on admiring extreme self-aggrandising from its sporting hero's.

Lets face it, Americans like smack-talk.

I think Naka's being quite clever trying to give them what they want.  Might even be an idea for Magnus or someone else to step up and give him some back, set up a nice (fake or not) angry rivalry to grab a couple of headlines, like he already did with his "I am Magnus' only competitor".

Chess is proving a hard sell everywhere presently, and we have a current generation of top players who are mostly pleasant and polite with each other.  A bit of mud-slinging and temper tantrums might raise the interest level enough to get it noticed amid a sea of reality TV and over-sexualised childrens entertainers dominating peoples attention.

There is no need to manufacture anything.  We simply need someone who can voice Pope Robert James Fischer's point of view.
