Happened to me today. Ended up with a winning position and my opponent let lose with obscenities. Made me laugh and I responded with "gg". Always take the high road!
Report him??? Never, I'm a grown man, I can take it. I'd bet most of the time when players get ugly in the comments, they're just kids.

Lately i find folks just dont chat at all? I enjoy chatting about where folks are from etc And about the game, but in the last few months virtually nothing.
Theres heaps of time in the 30 min games i play to get to know someone a bit. I miss it.
Is it because there is just way too many people and these newer folk are a different breed ?LOL
When I see someone who does not talk nice to me I just do not respond and block them

“ I hate Americans”
“American filth”
” All speed and nothing else”

No I just don't understand what is considered nasty. Like does your opponent get upset when he loses. I suppose it is common for immature people to make comments about their own frustrations when losing because they can't handle losing. Hahaha ha losers.

”All speed and nothing else” This one sounds familiar. In my case, I received the comment from none other than one of my favourite content creators, Nelson Li Lopez. It seems like even public figures aren't immune to this sort of behaviour.

Not sure what is going on. However, my impression is more players are making nasty comments these days. In past I would encounter a hostile player once in a blue moon. During the month of December, however there were 4 straight days where at least one player made a nasty comment.
I think most players on this site are decent. However, I do not understand why some players get worked up over losing 3 minute blitz games. Chess is supposed to be fun. Also, I think chess is a wonderful way to unite people as well. I play to improve my game and to enjoy the beauty of chess.
Some theories I have in regards to the nasty comments are a lot of people are facing uncertain times. There is the war in Ukraine, inflation, and a myriad of other challenges facing humanity today. Some people take out their frustration out on others. Also, the Covid-19 pandemic caused immense physical and mental suffering. Thus, there is a lot of pent up anger in society.
What I am doing now is reporting individuals who make hostile comments now. If your not having fun playing chess then what is the point of playing? Also I am not disabling my chat. That would give people who make nasty comments too much power. Also, there are people on here I really enjoying playing and chatting with.
