need advice for beginners on what to play

i am a beginner , and i see here many time formats in live chess. what should i play at this stage? i am currently keeping myself to 30 mins, thinking that faster formats won't help me grow at all. m i right? if yess then at what stage do i start playing faster formats?

The one exception to the longer is always better rule is if you're trying to learn a new opening.  Five minute blitz can be a valuable tool for that so long as you analyze afterwards.  Me I'm old and can't really handle time pressure well so I just play correspondence ("online").  It's also a good way to learn about openings since it's "open book".  I call it "training wheel" chess but I suppose "research" chess is nicer.

I'm sure Dan Heisman will be pleased to know that he's considered a "New Age" instructor.

It will be better for your chess improvement to avoid blitz at the moment. Play many long games. Once you reach maybe 1600 you can play few blitz games. But you should still play many long games.
