Need Help Progressing

Hey, I need help progressing to the next level. I'm currently rated at roughly 2020 in rapid but this fluctuates between 2000 and 2050. I only play rapid seriously.

I know the usual suggestions are to do more puzzles, and analyze your games, but what else is there? What is the biggest hurdle I can overcome to cross 2100, 2200, and beyond? Working with a coach is something that isn't an option for me at the moment.

Any suggestions from higher rated individuals is greatly helpful. I'm trying to improve my OTB rating and as I progress more online I hope to progress more with my actual rating.

What ya need to do, as a 200 rated myself, (online, im better physically) buy a chess notation book where you record your moves, and then go to a park. My great-uncle who was a chess teacher gave me one as a contemporary gift, but he recorded my and his game. But what I mean is, that when you play physically, you actually think before you do, with no UI telling you which opening that is you're playing, no +-, get out there in the green grass! when you are outside, you improve your mental health and state, but also, it helps you focus. Listen to the wise loser rather than the inexperienced winner.

"do more puzzles" ++ Overrated. 4 puzzles is a good warm-up before you play, but that is about it. In a real game nobody tells you there is a tactic, or for whom.

"analyze your games" ++ Analysing your lost games is key.

"what else is there?" ++ Study annotated grandmaster games.

"What is the biggest hurdle I can overcome" ++ Endgames, especially rook endings.

"Working with a coach" ++ is unnecessary. A $20 book authored by a top grandmaster provides better coaching than some mediocre coach.

Hey, congrats on reaching 2020 in rapid! If you're looking to push past 2100 and beyond, you might want to check out ChessMood. They offer great structured courses and webinars that focus on improving your understanding of the game. It's more than just puzzles and analysis—they provide guidance on openings, middlegame strategies, and endgames, which could be what you need to break through to the next level. Many higher-rated players swear by it, and it could be a great supplement to your self-study. Give it a shot!

Read Pawn Power in Chess by Hans Kmoch.

If you're not sure you can understand it, try Pawn Structure Chess by Soltis, first.
