Need help understanding percentile - Chess Forums

I'm rated at about 1500 Rapid and I have a percentile of 2.9%. Although I appreciate that I'm not an outstanding player I'm a bit surprised that I'm supposedly better than only 2.9% of players? I have friends with ratings less than 1000 with percentile's around 50% so I'm not sure what's happening. Any ideas?

Your percentile is messed up. It should be closer to 97%

Staff may have a way to fix it on a profile where it's messed up.
