I am pretty bad at chess. can anyone teach me how to play better and how tournaments work on this site? I entered one but didn't know what to do. I think I lost, but I don't know. Please reply!

Read a beginner level chess book to get a basic understanding of the game. Don't play Blitz games, you need more time to think as a beginner. I'd recommend playing online (turn based) games where you have a lot of time for your moves.
