I'm developing a new Chess game called Chess - War of Kings for the Apple Vision Pro. Players will be immersed on the board as the King, from a first perspective leading and directing with eye tracking movements and natural hand gestures on the Apple Vision Pro to lead their army to checkmate the opposing King. The standard rules of chess will still apply along with variants of timed chess such as bullet, rapid, and blitz. As a member of the chess community would Chess - War of Kings be a game you would be interested in? (All feedback is welcomed)

Hmm. Please tell us the eye movements or hand gestures to tell your pawn to become a knight.

Also, I don't think the King has good enough visibility of the board to be able to see or direct their pieces in most scenarios. Have you tried rendering a scene from the perspective of the King? If not, get a Chess set model, open it in Blender and set a camera at the King's head to see what your game would look like.

I'm assuming you got to the end of the board for a promotion. So you would look at the promotion you want and press your index finger and thumb together to select the promotion.

Nice, thanks for the tip ! I have seen the prototype for what it would look like. You will have to turn your head left and right alot and I will add a zoom in feature for play more so down the board. Would this be a game yo would be interested in though?

I wouldn't play it but there are approximately 100,000 computer games that I don't play already so that doesn't tell you much.

Very ambitious project.

I have designed various chess UIs. Some conceptual and one where I took the unconventional form factor of a chess clock with a wide-screen touch display, 3D printed cases and embedded Raspberry pi. This presented the possibility of doing live analysis with an OTB game.

I'm very interested to see what you come up with for Apple Vision... spatial computing as Apple like's to call it. This is a very novel user experience.

Yes, I would try this game. As a developer I would be very concerned about the commercial viability of such a product. It's a very niche and expensive device and I would worry the concept might be gimmicky. I worry the novelty of it will wear off quickly.

As others have said, I would like to see concept screenshots or even 3D rendered videos showcasing the experience a bit. This should be very easy to produce and sharing with others for their thoughts.

Thank you for the feedback, its very appreciated. I see your very well informed. As far as the apple vision pro I have so much confidence in it. Blindly I must admit. However, not one apple product flopped so I'm hoping this isn't the first. lol. I also will have the game design pics and gameplay on IG (Chess_War_of_Kings) really soon. Just getting the finishing touches on it. Give a follow on the gram. Thanks for the feedback and early aupport happy.png

Not all products were a success happy.png https://startuptalky.com/apple-failed-products/

For years Apple called Apple TV a hobby. When they launched the iPad it was a revolutionary device and form factor, however, they didn't know how to market it or how people would use it. For the longest time it was a third screen... something people would have next to the couch while watching TV and they would look up things. It was for consuming content and not creating it. That has since changed.

The Home Pod still hasn't reached its potential in my opinion. I'd like to see an API for others to integrate apps and services with it.

I love CarPlay in my car!

I think Apple Vision is such a new platform and user experience that Apple and users don't know how they'll use it yet. Spatial computing... are people gonna wear this all day at work? Is this really a new way to interact with desktop apps? Or is it just for entertainment? Still unknown to me. I think we need people to create apps and showcase the possibilities. This will help inspire future apps.

Have you use Meta Quest headset? My favourite experience with Quest is the default workspace (that igloo home). It really transports me to somewhere else.

I forgot about most of those products. Sheesh. I hope APV doesn't make the list. But I agree. It'll definitely taking some adjusting to see how consumers take to this product. From the articles I read, the business aspect and connectivity takes precedent. Entertainment comes second. However, I think the order may switch because Apple has allowed developers early access to the kit, such as myself, to develop apps before its release. So it'll be interesting to see how it is adopted. I tried out the Meta Quest a few times myself it is an amazing experience in my opinion.

I understand the vision has the ability to create a scan of your face when you're in a video call.

It might be interesting to play someone in an environment like a park and you both see the board in a virtual world and move pieces.
