Hello all.
I just registered at chess.com

I'm from Holland and off course I love playing chess.
I win of all my friends, but that says equally much about their skills as mine, lol.

I'm a beginner, I guess.
Began on the Chessmaster (software) tutorials yesterday and enjoy them so far.
As one probably sees, my english aint perfect but I can make myself clear just fine.

Just wanted to introduce myself before starting to ask questions on the forum.

Regards,

Nick.

Welcome to chess.com, Nick.  The forums can get a little cantankerous at times, but almost everyone means well.  People are usually pretty good about answering newcomer's questions, but remember that all these threads are archived.  Sometimes it is just easier to do a forum search and find your answer there.  Have fun.

Offcourse I will always search first before asking anything, that is just common sense.
And offcourse Google is my friend too.
Did not mean to announce a flood of "stupid" questions, lol.

I was just being polite   :)

Thanks for the welkom replys though!

Nor did I mean to imply that you lacked common sense Nick (although at times it seems painfully uncommon).  I can be Captain Obvious in some of my posts, but sometimes newcomers don't realize the threads are archived.

Okay, enough of this comedy of manners.  I'm going back to getting beat up by the tactics trainer.

I am a newcomer and a beginner. I need help with something I can't find in the FAQ's or Forums. I play chess with a chess.com member who is also a newcomer and a beginner, but due to our schedules we can't always meet the 3 day limit to make moves. Is there any way the 3 day period can be increased?

Thank you.

jaclyn

Welcome to the site :) You can create a new game with a longer time limit but unfortunately once the game has been started you're not able to increase the time.

You can both go here http://www.chess.com/home/echess_settings to your online chess settings and make sure the box next to "Automatically claim victory when time runs out!" is not checked and your games will not automatically end when the 3 days without a move time is up.

@ Nick...

If you've been using softwares, I'll strongly reccomend Majestic Chess™. If it weren't for that, I would be on, like, Chesskid.com or something (Lol).

Nick, welkom, what do you play, 2 minutes, 3 min., 5/2 ?  ( I do ) or the longer ones ?   Are you member of a club in your town ?  And,  as there are so many subjects in the forums here,  what are you interested in, especially ?  Thanks ! Ger.

Hello there! I have another beginner question that I was unable to find under the FAQs. When playing with a friend we often chat. Can I, and if I can, how do I, erase old conversations? Will they stay there until a game ends? Thank you.

P.S. I followed the advice on settings and now me and my friend have more days to make a move. Thank you.

jaclyn

There isn't any way to remove chat. Live chat isn't recorded for later viewing once the game is complete.  Online chess chat will stay there forever :)

Ballofwhacks

It will live through eternity...

Will it be waiting for me in at the Great Chess Game in the sky? Laughing (tongue in cheek) Thank you for your replies, jac1yn and Ballofwhacks.
