(P.S.: I was also talking about free engines, of which the source code is available. Obviously I won't pay a license to use an engine in a software that I give away for almost nothing. Does anyone know a better engine than Crafty that fits these characteristics ? )

There are better free engines, but I believe Crafty still leads among those that make their source code freely available, and that you can repackage as part of your own software without running aground upon copyright laws.

Robert Hyatt, developer of Crafty, has done more to help other programmers get into the chess business than almost anyone else.

For your purposes, Crafty is a great choice, and it is a strong engine.

The software comes in two languages, English and French, and your language is detected automatically. The download is safe and the donation process via Paypal is as secure as Paypal can be.

No feedback, all those who downloaded it so far ? Does it mean it's perfect or does it mean it's terrible ? Tongue out

Your software looks very impressing!

Unfortunately I'm using Linux with a VMware Player for Windows program, and I can't make it work with 3D-graphic. I have tried installing Chessmaster 11 without any success. Also some other 3D-grafics program can't be installed.

Question:

Why a 3D-interface? I have never use a 3D-interface, even when available on other Windows computers. What's the benefit compared to 2D?

3D is glitzy, but aside from Kasparov's man vs machine match against X3D Fritz several years ago (Fritz 8.5 as I recall), I've never seen 3D anywhere near useful. Put your money into developing quality 2D if you want to attract quality chess players. If you're after kids and patzers that like glitz and glitter, 3D might be worthwhile.

Because my program uses now the Crafty chess engine. Read on :

It's second behind Rybka.

For your information, it's no where near being second behind Rybka. Google chess engine lists and you'll see there are tons of much better free engines.
