Stefan, I'm so wrapped up in OTB chess that there's no way I could be involved right now. I have four OTB tournaments on Friday through Sunday, for example.
New group for 90-minute games exclusively
Hi CigoLogic! That's a pretty cool idea! So is it going to be a competitive style group(with points, standings, rounds and such) or more flexible? I'm not sure with scheduling and such if I'll really be available all the time

I might be able to play a game or two on Mondays. Maybe two game match? One with each color? My rating is rather low but I am willing to play anyone since that's how you get better anyway.

Playing a game for 90 +minutes is a waste of time. Tournent times are important just to adjust the time management only (5-10 tournment games in a year is more than enough for your long time management). In fact, the best time control for intermediate players like you should be focus on around 30 min/game and gradually decrease time 20mins/game, 10 mins/game etc. Even 10mins /game is total of 20 minutes and you have a good amount of time for long game strategy. In fact, a critical move in a game is around 10% only, other 90% are natural moves. Play more games, learn to differentiate a critical move vs unimportant moves. Save your time from those 90% unimportant moves and spend a lot of times for those 10% or less of critical moves. Better player save time for 90% of those unimportant moves by using shortcut( memory from tactic patterns), opening preparations, playing logical moves (for example, i will do 0-0, then will do queen side push, a4,b4 in this opening) etc.
Thinking long time wont help you getting a lot of better moves unless you already have a good knowledge of chess. That is why top players can play 1v10 amaterus in chess by saving those unimportant time ( In fact that cant be possible in other games, 1v10 in soccer)

I definitely disagree with this. I find myself in time trouble very often when playing 15+10 let alone 10+0. For tactical lines and accurate evaluations of a position it's pretty important to have at least 40 minutes.
Also, what does it matter? If he wants to play 90 min he can do that. OP didn't ask how to improve or such, just some people willing to join a group that plays 90 min games.

there is no perfect move in chess and your assumption of 40 minutes is totally wrong, even with computer analysing for more than 40 days, some some positions cant be solved. U dont know my logic of time management cos you havent reach my level yet.

Yeah this advice is well meaning I'm sure but none of us have asked for it. I want to play longer time controls to see if I can work on my ability to calculate, win, lose, or draw. I welcome any further info about the group!
If that was 85 mins... Our heads would never get peace.

Get on topic for crying out loud! Players here are reaching out to one another to form a group. That's it! If you are interested, contribute! If you have a complaint, start your own flipping thread! Jeez!

Wow you're way in over your head.
"Your assumption of 40 minutes is totally wrong" It's my experience with chess games. How can I be wrong about my own experience? 40 minutes for me and surely for many players, is a more comfortable time to be able to add as much value to our moves as possible. There's a reason chess clubs do 90 minutes and tournaments do 90 minutes...
"even with computer analyzing for more than 40 days, some positions cant be solved." Well I didn't say I could solve chess in 40 minutes now did I? I said after 40 minutes, the accuracy of my moves will improve only slightly. Also who ever said engines are the ultimate chess players? Engines suck at positional understanding.
"U dont know my logic of time management cos you havent reach my level yet" Oh please, you're not Magnus Carlsen and the only games you play on this site are bullet and blitz. Time management isn't the crazy concept you make it out to be. It's not endgame theory ffs.
Looking at your profile, it seems to me you just feel less validated knowing that your rating is only representative of your skill in time sensitive games.

Hi Stefan
Would like to know more about your group, and how the varied time zones would be managed?
- Tournament within group
- Members posting available time slots 🎰 on calendar 🗓 dates ⌚ for individual games
Thx

Hello everyone!
I'm so happy to see that some of you are interested in joining. Please do so here: The 90-minute Club.
I'm trying to find the best way to schedule the games. There are a couple of ways to do it and we might have to experiment. So if 90-minute games is for you, please click the link and let's help each other find the best way to do this. Thanks!

Now that we have a little momentum I'll post my suggestions for how to set up the games on the forum pages of the club.
Once again, here is the link to the club: The 90-minute Club.
Hi everyone,
I just created a new group here on chess.com for people who'd like to find 90-minute games (e.g. for OTB practice). If you are interested in such games, please join Club 90-minute games.
I'll try to figure out a way for members of this group to easily schedule 90-minute games across time zones.
I know long games are only for the few. For this reason, I think we need a place to meet.
All the best,
Stefan (cigoLogic)
