Welcome to the best chess site on the web! There's something for everyone here. Dive right in and enjoy!
Thank you for the warm welcome. There is certainly a lot for me to learn. My goals are modest, but I hate playing poorly when it is basic errors that I make on a routine basis.
I know it just takes some time and work, I love playing games and some I have picked up quicly and others require a lot more effort. Chess has always proven to require a lot of effort on my part, but at the same time it has always kept me interested even when I was not playing.

Brief background: Been "playing" since I was 8 or so (now 32) but not at all consistently. It was really a game to spend time with my dad who had a few different chess sets and I would get to pick out which set to use. Some great father son bonding and that was a lot of fun. I hope to be able to teach my son to play when he is old enough to learn!
However, I am far from great...or even good. Since getting a new smartphone recently I downloaded a free chess program and have rediscovered the game since not playing in YEARS. I can barely beat my phone (android free chess) on level 3 and can't beat it on level 4. I know it isn't the strongest program either.
So I am here to learn, I am pretty much an open book. Other than knowing how the pieces move and the rules, I am very much a novice.
