If you're new to chess this might be the most useful part of the website:
Other videos / lessons / tactics do require you to be a member, but AFAIK you can do all of these (in the link) for free.

I am sure you will start of by just playing chess. Soon you might find yourself wanting to improve. Then you will get into lessons as Ilama47 suggested. There is a limit as to how much you can learn. You will find that the website wants you to spend money to get a membership and view lessons. Which is fair. At that point you can pay or venture into other ways.
There are many ways around this. Many clubs give away free membership like one that I joined. Road to gm. click picture to view club.
I did join the club for free membership opportunity but I would highly recommend joining a good close-knit club anyway. It slowly introduces you to the community, the different things you can do with chess on this website. Has various activities. And tournaments! Makes chess even better.
Take your time! Take it slow and if you end up joining ROAD TO GM we will be more than happy to welcome you in, when the time comes!
And, relatively new to chess. Any advice on how to navigate the site? Do I need to become a premium member to get lessons? Is that free? Is there a beginner section? All advice is welcome. Ken
