Here's one: always gives lame commentary like "you exchanged equal material" when that wasn't the point at all, just a part of a larger scheme.

None of it I am interested in. Also there was nothing wrong with the former UI. So how about just having a basic UI and let people customize it to their liking instead of presenting them with options for: Speaking Coach, puzzles, play bots, streak.... things I have no use for.

It recently criticized me for not taking a pawn in a game, not seeing the point that I was leaving them with no good move left to play.

While I was aware that the coach occasionally made nonsense commentary, I believe it was in the past, you know, with the old coach and system. On the contrary, the new coach may be a bit smarter than his predecessor.
I immediately tried playing the coach, and he hinted that I could play moves that attack multiple pieces at once, which makes sense given that Qb5+ check attacks both the king and the pawn.

After the coach block check with his knight, he hinted that there is something wrong with one of his pieces, pointing to an undefended pawn on b7.

If you haven't tried playing coach in a long time, now is the time to give it a try. 😼
I use Danny as the Coach. His commentary is banal and obnoxious, just like the real Danny Wrench.
