New User having to disable chat due to idiots

I'm new to Chess.com, but I really enjoy playing on the chess.com app on my tablet. I'm just abeginner really, but I like the challenge / mental stimulation.

Unfortunately, today I've had two idiots being abusive/rude via the chat feature, so I've now disabled it altogether. I think this is a shame as I like to say 'good game' etc. when its warranted. To get swearing and other abuse when I'm here to improve / enjoy my game is really disappointing.

Are there any plans to have a 'report abuse' button ?

I think there was one but the report abuse button got abused... If it happens again screen shot the conversation (CTRL+Prt Sc) then send it in a report to an admin, or when using the app you screen shot it however your device does it

The best thing you can start to do is disable chat upon the moment that they become a pain, and then block them.  You save yourself a lot of heartache that way.

I won't comment on your entire post because you gave yourself away with the 1st 3 words.  "I'M NEW HERE"Frown   1st of all WELCOME ABOARDSmile  The site recommends that anyone disables chat whenever you encounter a negative individual.  There IS a "report abuse" feature and a blocking feature that's talked about "ad nauseum"Cry in other threads.

Or you could stop being so overly sensitive about wimps playing it cool over the internet.

Block, report, and move on.

Welcome to chess.com!

At the bottom of the page is the  Help & Support link.  You can use it to report people that dont know how to act properly.

You have the option to disable chat which helps :-)

lastly...understand that this is the internet, and siting behind a monitor in the privacy of your own home affords some the opportunity to act, less than human...mature...etc.

Also!  You are going to get answers telling you to quit being thin skinned, grow up, among many other less than desirable answers.  Just remember that some have self-esteem issues.  Try to be understanding.

Move on move on and then move on.

There's all types in online chess jerks, tempermental teenagers, people with monster egos, cheaters, cyber tough guys who yell in all caps, trolls, purse snatchers, sandbaggers you name your villian.

Choose your opponents wisely stay away from the villians I mentioned you'll be alright.

Yes I'm new here and no, I'm far from overly sensitive.

I could have responded in kind but that would have brought me down to their level. I'm just surprised that some idiots feel the need to resort to such idiocy...

Thanks for the good advice about taking screen shots and blocking /reporting. I think though, that for the time being, I'II just turn chat off - which is a bit of a shame.

Its not a problem that's as prevelent as it may seem at first, there are some great people on here, you just need to persevere. Ive played many series of games with people Ive met from my time on chess.com and am still playing them to this day.

Happy hunting!

AutisticCath

Just swing by their profile and say "good game" after the game.

Firstly ignore all the people that tell you to just ignore it, they're not being helpful. For those who trash talk (in a negative way) block them, and block the chat. However don't block people right away, there are a lot of kind friendly people on this site.

Thanks for the commentrs and to Diakonia and Messi000, in particular for their advice.

I'm of the mind that if the idiots aren't reported / blocked they will just carry on with their abuse.

If you disable chat, the entire civilization will come crumbling down. Why do you think the're looking for the lost continent of Atlantis?Yell
