Good idea! Especially with the knight- we need to emphasize the elegance and simplicity in the game, and the awkward knight moves take away from that.
why not create an archer...he moves and hits anything at a distance of three squares around him(but no checking ability) and no hitting anything in between ........

That's cool. It would be awesome if Chess.com had a special room where you could make up variants and play experimental games with new rules.

I just created a new variation of chess, since the current one is going obsolete.
There will be an extra piece called the merchant. It would look like a horse, but it would have a man's head instead. It would move like a rook, but only 4 squares in either direction unlike the rook. The knight will no longer move in L shapes. Real horses move straight ahead.
